This fundraiser is organised by and on behalf of Clare GAA. We are a non-profit sporting association, organised and run under the auspices of the Gaelic Athletic Association. Our activities and actions are all aimed at organising, enhancing and promoting the playing of Gaelic Games within the County of Clare. We have over fifty club units, fielding hundreds of teams, making up the various league and championship fixtures held in our area each year. Hurling and Gaelic Football are the primary sports of our organisation.
Our games are played by kids from ages of five or six, through to adulthood. Ladies Gaelic Football and Camogie (hurling for girls and women) are increasingly popular and our sister-organisations co- ordinate those games, often using facilities shared with the GAA Clubs of the County. In addition to our local club teams, which are generally based in the traditional parishes throughout the County of Clare, we also organise teams to represent Clare on the provincial and national stage. Development Squads from age 13 & 14, through Minor (u17) and Under-20, all help to develop our top-class athletes, the cream of whom go on to represent on our flagship sides, our Senior Hurling and Senior Football.
Clare have had significant successes in the past three decades in particular, winning three Senior All- Ireland Hurling titles, four All-Ireland u21 Hurling crowns, an All-Ireland Minor (u18) title, as well as Senior National Hurling Leagues, Munster Hurling Championships and a Munster Senior Football title.
In our efforts to continue to promote our games and to strive towards further successes on the field- of-play, we need to make ongoing significant investment in the training facilities (playing pitches and related facilities) and in the support structures for same within Clare GAA. Further works to complete our County Training Centre in Caherlohan, Tulla to the desired “Centre of Excellence” standard could cost between one million and two million Euro, and the primary aim of this raffle is to begin a war-chest of funding to enable that work to be scoped and carried out in the coming years.
The raffle is also designed to raise substantial funding for the clubs of the County, with €25 of each ticket sold by the clubs being allocated to the club nominated by the purchaser. The clubs have no cost to meet in this, with the cost of the house and the other prizes being met from the remainder of the ticket price.
